Beta
I want the failures
Beta units go out to a small group once the personal build has run long enough to trust. Real hardware on a real tank, with the understanding that it is early, and that the useful thing you can give back is everything that goes wrong.
A beta unit senses. It switches nothing. Not mains, and not the twelve volt ports — a doser, an auto top-off, a CO2 solenoid — that the node is built to switch. Other pages here say the node switches those, and that part is in testing now. On a beta unit that half is off.
What a beta tester is signing up for
A system that has been running on one 120 gallon SPS and LPS mixed reef and deliberately broken on a second one, now running on yours. Finished case cosmetics are not the point yet. No outlet is controlled, nothing is cut, and nothing plugs into your heater — the half that acts on a limit comes after certification. Your reef is the point, so the failsafes you already have stay where they are.
Alerts appear on the Pod, and on your phone when you open it. Nothing reaches out to you during beta — no text message, no call, and no service watching from outside the house. The check-in that notices silence is designed and decided, not built. If a tank goes wrong at 3am, the screen will say so. It will not wake you.
What I am watching
Mostly not the sensor dataThe interface has never met anyone who did not build it. What I most want to see is someone using it who was not in the conversation where it was designed: where they hesitate, what they cannot find, what they assume a screen means. That outweighs the probe logs.
What I ask
Tell me when it annoys youNot formal reports. The moment something is confusing, wrong, or wakes you up for no reason, say so while it is fresh. An alarm that wakes you for nothing is a design defect and I would like to hear about it as one.
How to be in the queue
There is no separate signupAnyone can put their name down. Who gets picked is deliberately mixed — a display tank, a frag system, a rack in a shop, in different rooms and at different sizes — because a fault that only shows up in one kind of setup is exactly the one worth finding. Join the launch list below. They are all in the same queue, and which one you run is asked when accounts open. Announcements happen there, so there is nothing else to watch and nothing to miss.
Agreed in writing before a unit ships
What happens if a tank crashes and whose call it is, and what you get for taking part. It will be a short document, and it will exist before the hardware arrives rather than after something goes wrong.
Nothing has been written out yet and this is still under consideration.
